Team Algae T-shirt

The Washington Reflecting Pool is supposed to reflect the dignity and grandeur of the Lincoln Memorial. In 2026, it reflected something rather different.

The Team Algae T-shirt commemorates one of the more unexpected consequences of Donald Trump’s attempt to “renovate” the National Mall; the transformation of the Reflecting Pool into what appeared to be a large ornamental pond of guacamole. Apparently, when you drain a historic water feature, shut off its filtration systems, and then refill it after doing a terrible job at renovating it, algae happens. The Lincoln Memorial has seen a lot in its time, but presumably not that.

The design renders the words “Team Algae” in the unmistakable visual language of the bloom itself; verdant, spreading, and seemingly unstoppable, much like the story.

For anyone who appreciated the poetic justice of Trump’s flagship beautification project producing something that looked like it needed a lifeguard.
